Our friends at Living Cities have released a new infographic (below) explaining how "Pay for Success", an innovative new approach to financing social programs, works and outlining the Massachusetts Juvenile Justice Pay for Success Initiative (MAPFS), which launched in January. The initiative aims to combat prison recidivism, one of the rustiest gears in the poverty cycle, by expanding the work of Roca Inc., a Boston-based organization that has had stunning success keeping young people out of jail and helping them get their lives on track.

New Profit Board Member Jeff Walker took to LinkedIn recently to pose two great questions - related, but not often addressed in tandem - for the social innovation sector:
Happy Valentine's Day to our portfolio organizations! We asked our team at New Profit to tell us one thing that they LOVE about each of you and here is what they said:

It's been 20 years since Norwegian speed skater Johann Koss competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. In his three events, Johann won three gold medals and set three world records. For some, that might have been the apex of their life achievements. For Johann, it was just the beginning of his path to show the power that play and sport can have on individuals and the world. Johann went on to found Right To Play, a global organization that uses the transformative power of play - playing sports, playing games - to educate and empower children facing adversity.
Art has a way of capturing energy and passion in movements for social change that are sometimes missing in other forms of media, which is why New Profit's Gathering of Leaders has featured a visual art component for the last few years.
Whew! Does a word exist to describe being simultaneously exhausted, exhilarated, and motivated? That's what we are! The 10th annual Gathering of Leaders just concluded, but the impact is just beginning. Our participants are now taking their ideas, curiosity, energy, and passion about our discussions back out into the world to grow the impact.
