Yesterday, GreatSchools launched the College Success Award—the first of its kind—that recognizes 814 schools across nine states that excel in ensuring students prepare for college, enroll in college, and succeed once they get there. GreatSchools has launched this new award with the support of New Profit, a national venture philanthropy organization, and a consortium of foundation funders.
We are proud to have supported and collaborated with GreatSchools in making this important initiative a reality.
We are thrilled to be in Menlo Park, CA for the 2018 Youth Activation Summit, a collaboration between PeerForward and Facebook Education. Envisioned by student leaders, the Youth Activation Summit aims to accelerate the impact of young people creating school and community solutions in partnership with schools. The Summit is bringing together a diverse community of stakeholders from across the country - award-winning youth leaders, school and district innovators, nonprofit leaders, researchers, and funders - to design plans and cultivate a network to shift the narrative from "student need help" to "students create solutions"
We are proud to have supported and partnered with PeerForward and Facebook Education on this amazing initiative and are excited to be at Facebook HQ to engage with these amazing young leaders.
Click here to watch the Youth Activation Panel where Young Leaders from around the country discussed their own journeys as Youth Activators and how they engaged their peers, schools and communities in accelerating change, moderated by New Profit's own Delanoe Johnson, an Associate on the Reimagine Learning team.
Today, April 16, 2018, leaders from the enterprise, investment, higher education, and PreK-12 communities will descend upon San Diego for the 2018 ASU + GSV Summit. We all have unique gifts that can help us frame our sense of purpose and the mark we leave on the world. For me it is and has always been art. My music is JOY. Art allows me to express myself in the rawest, purest, freest form. The great range of art we see and experience shows us how self-expression can take many different forms and how our message to the world can live in many skins.
Because art encourages us to discover and express our unique selves, it can help us tap into our genius. This is especially empowering for youth, as thinking creatively is in their nature. Young people haven’t been crushed into the “adult” way of approaching problems – typically structured, rigid, linear and (too often) unoriginal. Instead, youth are dreamers, seeing connections and possibilities that adults might have lost the ability to envision by problem-solving through pre-established lenses. So how have we tapped into the full power of artistic expression and capitalized on young people's innate creativity? Unfortunately, we haven't, or at least not in a way that is holistic and meaningful.

We are pleased to share that Aaron Lieberman, co-founder of both Acelero Learning and Jumpstart, is leading a bold, new effort focused on early learning at New Profit. Aaron has spent the past year at New Profit refining the concept of a public-private partnership to identify, select, and scale Early Childhood Support Organizations. We are excited that this work is now moving into a launch phase.
