America Forward Applauds Congressional Passage of the Evidence-Based Policymaking Commission Act

Posted by America Forward on Mar 17, 2016 4:31:24 PM

“Members of the America Forward Coalition applaud Congress for approving the Evidence-Based Policymaking Commission Act of 2016. Introduced by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan (R-WI), the bill would create a commission to develop practices and processes for ensuring the use of evidence and outcomes in the development of policies and in the funding of interventions at the federal level. In times of greater demand for human services and tighter budgets, we believe we must work together to direct government resources to programs that work and that measurably improve people’s lives. We commend Sen. Murray and Speaker Ryan for their efforts to focus on results through innovation, evaluation, and common frameworks for evidence. The America Forward Coalition looks forward to the President signing this important piece of legislation into law shortly.”

Yesterday, the Senate passed the bipartisan Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), paving the way for President Obama to sign the most important piece of education legislation of the last decade (see America Forward's statement here). America Forward's staff and leaders from the 70+ innovative organizations in the America Forward Coalition worked incredibly hard over the last year to help shape ESSA. Below are some insightful tweets from America Forward Policy Director Lexi Barrett, who spent the last ten years working on education policy in Congress and the White House, and her colleagues.
